Displaying Items in the SessionFirst, some important terms:
| ‘Session’ | The list of Items to be displayed today. |
| ‘Item’ | A displayable page - a song, Bible passage, or whatever. |
| ‘Current Item’ | The Currently selected Item in the Session. This Item will be displayed if you press Enter. (And usually it is currently being displayed.) |
If the Session has already been prepared, it is very simple to display the Items. If you need to add an Item into the Session, see Adding Songs and Bible verses below.
WorshipSession is always ‘in display mode’. When it starts up, it loads the Current Item from the Session and displays it full-screen. The Status Line at the bottom of the screen shows the name of the Current Item, and the Next Item.
Essential WorshipSession Keypresses:
In WorshipSession, a feature is an alternative view of a displayed Item. In many songs, the feature shows a few inspiring words in a large font, instead of the normal song words.
Essential Keypresses:
Some songs do not have features. Where the displayed song has a feature, this is indicated on the status line at the bottom of the screen by /F after the name of the Current Item.
The small text at the bottom of the screen shows the title of the Current Item, and also the Next Item, so you can see what will happen when you press PageDown. Sometimes you may want to skip over the Next Item and display the Item after that.
Press Ctrl-PageDown to move to the Next Item without displaying it. You can use Ctrl-PageDown and Ctrl-PageUp to ‘peep’ through the Session Items until you find the Item you want. Press Enter to display the Current Item, or PageDown to display the Next Item.
Using the WorshipSession pedalThe WorshipSession pedal is primarily intended to allow musicians to operate the software while playing their instruments, but it is also useful for preachers and worship leaders who want to reduce clutter.
The pedal appears to be a simple block of plastic, but it contains several functions. The top part of the pedal activates <prev>, and the bottom activates <next>. These basic functions are equivalent to the LeftArrow and RightArrow keys on the keyboard.
Notes:
Adding Songs and Bible VersesIt’s very simple to add songs and Bible verses:
To display a song, press F12, type the name of the song, and press Enter.
You don’t need to type the whole name for a song, because as you type, WorshipSession displays the list of songs that match what you have entered. For example, if you type F12 then ‘bea’, WorshipSession displays a list that contains (at the time of writing) just five Items. You can use UpArrow and DownArrow to select an Item from the list, then press Enter to display it.
You can find songs by first line, chorus, or title.
If you press Ctrl-Enter instead of Enter, the song is not displayed. It is still added to the Session and becomes the Current Item, but the displayed Item is not affected. This allows you to ‘secretly’ select your next song. When you’re ready to display it, press Enter. The Current Item will be displayed.
To display a Bible passage, press F10, type the reference for the passage, and press Enter.
WorshipSession can display any passage of scripture from a single verse to a whole book. You can abbreviate the name of books, so for example you can type ‘rev’ instead of ‘Revelation’. Many two-character abbreviations are accepted, e.g. mt, jn, rm etcetera.
